Meet OPPO Find X2 Pro - Screen and specs monster!

Back in December, OPPO demonstrated a phone prototype with an Under-Screen Camera solution and no ports.

This is the OPPO Find X2 Pro

Including us, many thought that the company might implement some of those features to make the 2020 Find X wow a lot of users like that they did with the 2018 Find X flagship with a truly all-screen design and motorized pop-up cameras.

But, that is not the case. Instead, OPPO opted for a more proven type of design on the Find X2 Pro that still looks futuristic. AND, like most 2020 flagship phones, it is jam-packed with top-of-the-line specs and innovative features.

The back of the phone comes in two styles: the Ceramic (Black) version and the Vegan Leather (Orange) variant. The Ceramic version features a new grating texture design based on high-density ceramics also known as composite zirconia.

OPPO made it as comfortable as silk to hold with anti-slip and anti-fingerprint characteristics. The other design is made out of Vegan Leather that is waterproof, oil-proof, resistant to high temperatures, humidity, and general wear-and-tear.

The unit that I was able to hold is the Ceramic edition with a curved back design that looks as good as advertised.

OPPO's most premium smartphone yet!

The phone measures at 165.2 x 74.4 x 8.8 mm and weighs 207 grams for the Ceramic Black version. The Vegan Leather Orange edition is 9.5 mm thick and 200 grams light.

Like the 2018 Find X, the main highlight of the new Find X2 Pro is the display. It is using a massive Gorilla Glass 6 protected 6.7-inch display with a 67.8-degrees curve, a tiny bottom bezel of 2.9 mm, and an impressive 93.1 percent of screen-to-body ratio.

Unlike the Find X 2018 with a truly all-screen design and motorized pop-up solution to hide the cameras, the Find X2 Pro has a punch-hole display to house the selfie cam. The screen-to-body ratio is still great, although I would have liked it better if it is an all-screen design with an Under-Screen camera configuration. Maybe, OPPO is still not ready to use that tech on a flagship phone yet.

Arguably the screen to beat!

But, that's a minor thing. Why? The display of this handset is simply stunning! It uses an OLED type of panel with a crisp QHD+ 3168 x 1440 resolution at 519 ppi. It is also the first OPPO phone with an extra smooth adaptive 120Hz refresh rate and a touch sampling rate of up to 240Hz.

OPPO claimed that it has 100% DCI-P3 WCG (wide color gamut), the color accuracy of 0.4 JNCD, ultra-low reflectivity of 4.4 percent to produce a pure black color, and HDR peak brightness of 1,200 nits, and AI Adaptive Eye Protection System with TÜV Rheinland Full Care Display Certification.

It resulted in DisplayMate A+ grade, the highest in the industry yet.

Inside the phone, the specs are crazy good as well. The brain of the phone is Qualcomm's newest flagship SoC solution, the 2.84GHz Snapdragon 865 chip based on the 7nm manufacturing process paired with the Adreno 650 GPU. The Find X2 Pro will come with a version with a Qualcomm X55 5G modem, but the unit that we will get in the Philippines only has 4G.

Its SoC is paired with massive 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB UFS 3.0 non-expandable storage. LPDDR5 and UFS 3.0 are the new storage standards for mobile phones that are better, more stable, and faster than previous-gen solutions.

The next highlight of the device is its large 4,260mAh battery capacity(2x 2,130mAh) with USB-C 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 Flash Charge solution. OPPO said that it can fill its battery in just 38 minutes from 0 to 100 percent.

OPPO said that its SuperVOOC 2.0 tech has five-level safety protection. It is also compatible with other fast charging standards such as the 20W VOOC and 9V/2A QC or PD charging.
Triple-cam

For cameras, this device is a monster. It has a total of 3 cameras at the back. The primary camera is a customized 48MP f/1.7 Sony IMX689 sensor with a 7P lens, OIS, and All Pixel Omnidirectional PDAF focus. It uses PDAF and Laser AF at the same time.

Not your ordinary triple-cam!

The next camera is another 48MP camera. It is rare to see a pair of a high-resolution sensor on phones. Usually, there is only one high-resolution camera and the rest are lower-end sensors.

This is a 48MP f/2.2 Sony IMX586 with a 6P lens, 120-degree ultra-wide-angle, and 3cm ultra-macro mode.

The third camera is the one responsible for ultra-zoom. It is a 13MP f/3.0 periscope camera with a 5P lens, OIS, and EIS. It has a 5x optical zoom, up to 10x hybrid zoom, and up to 60x digital zoom.

All 3 cameras support the Ultra Night Mode 3.0. This means that you can use the handheld night mode even for zoom.

For videos, OPPO highlights the new Ultra Steady Video Pro technology for shake-free and smoother videos. It can record up to 4K 60fps at the back.

The selfie camera in the punch-hole is a 32MP f/2.4 Sony IMX616 camera with a new-generation AI face beauty algorithm to enhance selfies and Ultra Night Mode for clearer selfies in the dark.

Completing the specs, this phone has an In-Display fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, and GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and Galileo. it also has USB OTG compatibility.

For 4G, it has a lot of bands including the 700MHz Band 28 LTE. For 5G, it supports 5G SA and NSA.

The phone runs with ColorOS 7.1 skin based on the Android 10 operating system. To know more about ColorOS 7, read here.

Quick thoughts

Despite not showing the Under-Screen Camera solution to implement a real all-screen design, the OPPO Find X2 Pro is still an ultra-impressive 2020 flagship smartphone.

The screen still extra stellar and smooth due to its QHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh ratio. Also, the design is truly premium and polished, the specs are top-notch, and the cameras are very promising.

So far, this device is showing that OPPO has come a long way and they are now more capable of putting a better fight against other smartphone giants in the premium smartphone category.

The only question left is the Philippine price tag. In Europe, it is priced at EUR 1,199 or around PHP 68.8K.
